Planning and preparation

  • Outfits:

    Encourage coordinating colors rather than matching outfits, and choose timeless styles that will look good for years to come. 

  • Rest & Feed:

    Make sure everyone is well-rested and fed before the photoshoot to avoid cranky faces and meltdowns. 

  • Involve the Kids:

    Let them help choose outfits or props, and make the session fun and engaging. 

  • Plan in Advance:

    Choose a location that suits your family and the season, and coordinate outfits that complement each other. 

  • Location:

    Consider the time of day for optimal lighting (golden hour is ideal), and choose a location that's visually appealing and not distracting. 

During your photo shoot

During the Shoot:

  • Be Flexible: Expect the unexpected, and be prepared to adapt to changing circumstances. 

  • Capture Candid Moments: Don't just focus on posed shots, but also on capturing natural interactions and expressions. 

  • Keep it Light: A positive and relaxed atmosphere will translate into better photos. 

  • Move Around: Movement and interaction with family members is a great way to capture great shots. 

  • Get Down to Their Level: If you have children in your group, get down to their level to capture their perspective, be part of their world. 

  • Experiment with Angles: Try different angles and perspectives to find the most flattering shots. 

  • Communication: Communicate with your Photographer before, during, and after the shoot to ensure that that your expectations are met. 

  • Ask for help: If you are struggling with a particular pose or you are not comfortable with poses, don't be afraid to ask your photographer for some ideas.
